WildBlue, Viasat, Exede Experience
Three weeks ago, I made the decision to purchase the newly launched Exede, High Speed Satellite service offered by Viasat (formerly WildBlue).  Unfortunately for me, my home requires a signifcant expense to hook up to the local cable service.  I have been suffering along with a fairly decent DSL connection (3 down .75 up).  After learning about Exede however, I thought it would be worth a shot....

Full circle...
Growing up, I was coached by my Dad in all my little league sports.  I think one of the toughest times for my Dad was when I entered high school and he could no longer be my coach.  Over the past 25 years, I’ve had a very successful, decorated elite level, athletic career, competing in Football, Bodybuilding and Triathlon.  And as I reflect back on all those very early days of practices...

Dear Friends: As we discussed, I am in the process of starting a new enterprise that takes the work that we have done together in the past to the “next frontier” if you will, by putting it in the center of what people need to cope and thrive in the reality of our world today. I have no doubt that the work we did together in the past, at Action Technologies and Business Design Associates, was...

An absolute heroic leader.
by Juli Weiner  11:45 PM, DECEMBER 15 2011 BY GASPER TRINGALE. Christopher Hitchens—the incomparable critic, masterful rhetorician, fiery wit, and fearless bon vivant—died today at the age of 62. Hitchens was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in the spring of 2010, just after the publication of his memoir, Hitch-22, and began chemotherapy soon after. His matchless prose has...

Hitch - As reported in Vanity Fair
January 2012 Trial of the Will Reviewing familiar principles and maxims in the face of mortal illness, Christopher Hitchens has found one of them increasingly ridiculous: “Whatever doesn’t kill me makes me stronger.” Oh, really? Take the case of the philosopher to whom that line is usually attributed, Friedrich Nietzsche, who lost his mind to what was probably syphilis. Or America’s...

Brilliant
Thomas Jefferson This is amazing.  Thomas Jefferson was a very remarkable man who started learning very early in life and never stopped. At 5, began studying under his cousin’s tutor. At 9, studied Latin, Greek and French. At 14, studied classical literature and additional languages. At 16, entered the College of William and Mary. At 19, studied Law for 5 years starting under George...

Why Yahoo! matters.
In 2003, Yahoo! paid $1.5 billion for Overture Serivces Inc. and $235 million for Inktomi.  At the time, many described both acquisitions as leaving Yahoo! the owner of a “treasure chest” of patents.  At the time, the most valuable patent was the one for pay-per-click advertising filed by GoTo.com, then owned by Overture. If you recall, Overture was one of the first large West Coast companies...

In this interview, you can learn why Facebook will have an issue going public.  I’ve said it all along, Yahoo’s patent portfolio is substantial, powerful and of course valuable.

Vancouver - The real experience
I just spent three days in Vancouver, BC.  I must admit, its a fantastic city.  I enjoyed successful business meetings, great dinners and terrific friends.   The morning before my departure, I walked to a Starbucks and before I entered I was confronted by a homeless guy, maybe mid-thirties.  He started to explain his story and for some reason I couldn’t help but listen.  This guy drew a...

And its true.
“Barefoot-style” shoes are now a $1.7 billion industry. But simply putting something different on your feet doesn’t make you a gliding Tarahumara. The “one best way” isn’t about footwear. It’s about form. Learn to run gently, and you can wear anything. Fail to do so, and no shoe — or lack of shoe — will make a difference.

1% v.s. 99%... I like my odds with 1%.
We are Wall Street.  It’s our job to make money.  Whether it’s a commodity, stock, bond or some hypothetical piece of fake paper, it doesn’t matter.  We would trade baseball cards if it were profitable.  I didn’t hear America complaining when the market was roaring to 14,000 and everyone’s 401k doubled every 3 years.  Just like gambling, it’s not a problem until you lose. ...

Great to be running again...
Nearing a week of solid run efforts.  Finally finding my legs.  Slow, but finding them nonetheless.  For anyone who has run on a treadmill, take the speed up to 12 MPH and see how that feels…  ok, now imagine running that pace for 26.2 Miles!  Mind bottling isn’t it?  Take it a bit further… Craig Alexander, who just won the Ironman World Championships in Kona, ran a 2:44...

What???
So… I have been riding aggressively for the past 8 months.  I’ve managed to improve my cycling considerably.  Even though my actual training camp for IM WI hasn’t officially started, I decided to start short runs.  So how does it feel?  Oh my word… my legs are so sore.  For those of you who think cycling fitness and running fitness are the same, I got news for you.  They...

Indoors...
Its been weeks since I entered IM WI and already I must deal with training indoors.  The weather in Michigan really challenges ones psyche during a training camp.  Fortunately my race specific training plan starts 40 weeks out.  I have been training early in the morning, when its dark and cold.  The pool, treadmill and spinning, welcome to the fall season.  Winter coming soon.
